Dental tourism

One of the more unusual types of tourism is dental tourism. This combines getting well-priced, high quality dental treatments with a lovely holiday in a foreign country.

Why would people travel from their country to a foreign country to have dental work done? The simple answer is that it is a question of economics, mainly the exchange rate. Many countries considered to be developing, like South Africa, have highly trained and well-qualified medical practitioners. Of course, “first world” countries, such as the United Kingdom, the United States and Europe, have the same level of care. But due to developing countries often having much weaker currencies, the cost for medical procedures (even without medical aid cover) is often a lot cheaper in countries such as South Africa.

Moreover, South Africa, and in particular Cape Town, has much to offer the tourist in terms of a great, affordable holiday. And this makes dental tourism a most attractive option.

At our Cape Town dental clinic, we have quite a number of loyal patients who visit us regularly on holiday and have their dental work done at a fraction of the price they would have paid back home in XXX but still receiving first-class service. For example….
