Dental Services

Our practice offers the full spectrum of general dental services using the most up to date dentistry tools and procedures, creating fillings, crowns, veneers and dentures that look completely natural. We recommend check-ups and cleanings at least two or three times a year depending on the individual needs of the patient.

Tooth whitening

Whitening or bleaching your teeth can dramatically improve your smile in a very short time. For teeth that are grey, yellow or dull, we offer an advanced whitening system which will give a brighter, whiter smile instantly.

Porcelain Veneers

In as little as two visits, almost anyone can have a perfect smile make-over with veneers. Whether veneers are needed for crooked, malformed or mis-aligned teeth, the smile created will be completely natural and beautiful! Using the best quality materials with up-to-date dental technology, porcelain veneers will transform an unsightly smile.

Dental Implants (Restorations)

The technology that allows new teeth to be permanently bonded into the mouth to complement existing teeth and replace damaged, diseased or missing teeth. An implant is actually no more than a metal pin that is placed into the jaw bone. It acts as an anchor for a false tooth or a set of false teeth. In many cases implants are stronger than natural teeth.

Dental Checkups

A regular dental check-up is required to maintain good health because decay can eat away from the tooth’s surface to the nerve in the heart of the tooth in just a year. It is advisable that kids and adults see the dentist every 6 months.

Guards

Night-guards and occlusal guards are good for those people who wake up in the morning with a dull headache or jaw pain. This can be caused by the habit of unconsciously grinding teeth while you’re sleeping. One option many patients consider to keep their teeth safe from being damaged during grinding, is to wear a night-guard or occlusal guard.

Endodontics (Root Canal Treatments)

Endodontic therapy is the removal of the pulp tissue from the tooth. The pulp tissue refers to the nerve and blood vessels of the tooth. Endodontic therapy may be necessary to save your natural tooth if the pulp tissue is irreversibly damaged by bacteria associated with decay, very deep fillings, tooth fracture or trauma or even periodontal disease. The procedure involves little or no pain and can be completed in one to three visits.

Restorations (Fillings)

Fillings are used to repair a hole in the tooth caused by decay. A number of treatment options are available:

  • Direct:
    • Amalgam: made from a mixture of metals including mercury, silver, tin copper and zinc. The only problem with amalgam is that it doesn’t look aesthetically appealing, it does not strengthen the tooth and it contains mercury which has possible side effects. With the advances in technology, we now have non-metallic tooth-coloured materials replacing amalgam. Having said that, there are still a few instances in which amalgam remains the material of choice.
    • Composites/Tooth-coloured fillings: Regarded as the material of choice as they require more conservative preparations, have a strengthening effect on the tooth, are aesthetically appealing and virtually blend in with the tooth, usually hardened by exposure to a bright light source.
    • Direct Composite Inlay: Sometimes a tooth is so severely damaged and weakened that we need a material stronger than the normal composites-filling. When a dental composite material is subjected to intense heat and light, a more complete polymerization or setting reaction is achieved. This substantially improves the physical properties of the material. The filling in this case, called an inlay, is shaped and the material is light-cured directly in the mouth. However, the filling is made in such a way that it can be removed from the tooth and hardened further in a heat- or light-oven. The inlay is then bonded into the tooth. This restoration is completed in a single visit.
  • Indirect Inlays: The indirect inlay is more superior in terms of appearance & durability compared to a normal filling. In this case and impression is taken of the prepared cavity. The restoration is made by a dental technician in the laboratory. Materials used can be composite, ceramic, porcelain or gold.
    • Porcelain: has the advantage of being highly aesthetic, but disadvantage of being too brittle therefore susceptible to breakage. It is more technique-sensitive to use than composites requiring at least 2 dental visits to place. This costs significantly more than amalgam or composite filling.
    • Gold: is extremely durable and has fair aesthetic value and does not damage the opposing tooth

Crowns

Porcelain crowns are frequently chosen to repair a tooth with excessive decay, teeth that need structural support after a root canal or teeth that are broken or cracked. Sometimes they are used to simply resolve the appearance of a tooth. Available crown materials include:

  • porcelain bonded to precious metal
  • porcelain/ceramic
  • precious metal

At least 2 visits are required, the first for the preparation, impression, shade taking and fitting the temporary crown and the second visit to fit the permanent crown.

Crowning A Bridge

Crown and bridge, or fixed prosthodontic technology is used for the replacement of one or more missing teeth using existing teeth to support and retain the replacement. The procedure is just like a crown, except there are usually more than one tooth that need to be crowned.

Dentures

Dentures are a great option for people who have lost some or all of their teeth. One option is a partial denture, which generally is connected to a pink, skin colored frame and contains a few teeth or patients can get complete dentures, which rest on the gums and contain a full row of teeth. Immediate dentures are an option for patients who don’t want to be without teeth immediately after having teeth (one or multiple) extracted.

Sedation

For patients that are extremely scared, various sedation options are available. For younger nervous patients between the ages of 3 and 12 years old, we can offer nitrous oxidation, which makes for a happy introduction to dental treatment. Adult patients may also receive nitrous oxide sedation, or be treated using an intravenous technique administered by a specialist anaesthetist. Treatment under sedation in dental rooms dramatically reduces the cost of treatment as compared to similar dental procedures performed under general anaesthetics in a hospital theatre.
